Resolving Leakage Issue at Project Site in the Middle East for EPC Contractor

Facing leakages at 20 Bar during a Middle East project, an EPC contractor turned to Comfit for support. Through remote guidance, rigorous testing, and quality ferrule replacements, Comfit resolved the issue—ensuring safe performance at 110 Bar and keeping the installation on track.

Introduction:

EPC Contractor is a regular client of Comfit & Valves Pvt. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of  high- quality tube fittings and valves. EPC Contractor was working on a project in middle east and encountered a leakage issue during the installation of tube fittings at the site.

 

Situation:

EPC Contractor had been using tube fittings supplied by other vendor., which were approved for the project in middle east.  However,  during  the  installation  process, they  observed leakage  at  around  20  Bar pressure, which was a significant concern as the system was designed to operate at 110 Bar.

 

Comfit's Involvement:

EPC Contractor reached  out to  Comfit  & Valves  for  assistance  in  resolving the  leakage issue.  Comfit promptly responded by sending a sample batch of ferrules (front and back) in both 1/2" and 1/4"sizes to the middle east project site. Additionally, Comfit's technical team provided guidance and support through Microsoft Teams to assist EPC Contractor during the on-site installation and testing process.

 

Collaboration and Testing:

Comfit's team, along with EPC Contractor personnel, conducted rigorous testing at the site using various combinations of Comfit ferrules, Other Vendors, and nuts. The testing involved subjecting the assemblies to pneumatic pressure up to 110 Bar for extended periods.

Key Findings:

1.   Hardness of tubes (1/2") was checked in a NABL lab and found to be within acceptable limits.

2.   Testing with Comfit ferrules, other vendors bodies, and Comfit/ other vendors nuts (with snug tight) showed no leakage at 110 Bar for 1/2 hours.

3.   Testing with Comfit ferrules, other vendors bodies, and other vendors nuts (without snug tight on one side) showed leakage for 1/4" fittings but not for 1/2" fittings.

4.   Radial movement was observed in front ferrules after dismantling other vendor's supplied instrument fittings.

Resolution:

Based on the testing and findings, Comfit provided the following recommendations:

 

1.   Comfit's ferrules and nuts were suitable for use up to 110 Bar pressure.

2.   Proper swaging (tightening) procedures were crucial for achieving leak-free connections.

3.   Comfit provided their swaging (tightening) SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) to EPC Contractor for reference.

Conclusion

Through close collaboration, rigorous testing, and technical guidance, Comfit & Valves Pvt. Ltd. successfully assisted EPC Contractor in resolving the leakage issue at the middle east project site. Comfit's high-quality  ferrules  and  expertise  ensured  that  EPC Contractor  could proceed  with  the  installation  while meeting   the   stringent requirements   of  the   project.   This  case   study  highlights   Comfit's commitment to customer satisfaction and their ability to provide effective solutions to complex technical challenges.
